A Note From Pastor Brian…
“Some people are more careful, thoughtful, and thorough than others, and Jen is one of these rare types. In today’s modern tech age of instant information, that really just serves to prove the already decided point, Jen is different. Jen approaches this subject from a deep place of faith, with a vulnerability exposing her own personal journey and with a commitment to collate the best scholarship around this subject. We often say…what does the Bible say? What does tradition say?… Jen has done all the work for you and put it into a short, accessible essay. This might be of great use to you as you explore your own beliefs about full inclusion of the LGBTQIA+ siblings, it might be a resource that assists you to talk with others about the subject, it might be a resource that you can share with others who are resistant to talking about such things at all. It is well written, and we hope you put it to good use. “
About the Author…
“Sister in Christ, mother, wife, and architect, Jennifer Cole (she/her) enjoys thinking deeply about life and the most enduring and difficult topics of Christianity and faith. Raised in and attending loving and accepting mainline churches, Jennifer has become passionate about sharing the love of God she has personally experienced with others. She feels a calling to connect with the misunderstood, marginalized, and oppressed and to share hope through writing and critical contextual research from well-respected sources. Jennifer believes, as it is written that God is Love…. Therefore, all scriptures must be read through the lens of love and placed within their appropriate historical and theological contexts. Many human voices in Christianity and the complexity of scripture can confuse even the most devoted Christian. By seeking the heart of Jesus through prayer, the study of the Bible, and historical and theological scholarship, Jennifer believes we can better love our neighbors (everyone) and God and help shine Jesus’s light on a hurting world in need of shalom.”
